Adelina Sontikova: SP to Suite Festiva
Adelina Sotnikova showed her new short program at the show Amazing on ice in China.
SP – Suite Festiva
Of course Adelina not in a perfect shape and program requires many run-throughs and polishing, but I really like the idea! Program looks powerfull, strong and pretty unusual for Adelina and generally for women’s skating. A women tries on a men’s role, but still looks feminine. I’d say quite unusual combination.
And you know what? I caught myself thinking that it’s pity, that we probably (ok, let’s say 99,9%) won’t see this program at big competitions, except for Russian Nationals. After Olympics in Sochi I wrote on one figure skating forum that Yuna or Carolina was robbed of gold and Adelina was robbed of long and bright sporting career. And we, as viewers, were robbed of possibility to see what a great skater and performer Adelina might become one day.
Watching this new program, the same thought were in my head…….And I do feel robbed, because Adelina is growing up, her skating is developing, become more deep, more sensual, more feminine and mature, she’s developing as a performer, she has so much to show for the audience. But we probably won’t see it….I don’t count shows, because it’s not the same with competitions – another level of preparation, emotions, etc. Adelina, please prove me that I’m wrong.
I also like the idea for the costume – a jumpsuit and a torero’s bolero. But the jumpsuit needs to be redone. This silver painting on the hips makes her look wider and heavier. But the idea is great.

It looks like she’s been taking notes from Javi’s SP last season. And she rocks it.
I used to practically worship her but after Golden Spin of Zagreb I couldn’t bear to watch anymore. But I love her as a performer. Guilty pleasure: Je Suis Malade.
Interesting, what she chose for the free program)
That Je Suis Malade was heartbreaking! I got teary at Rostelecom! Although I’m partial to Weaver and Poje’s.
I wish she’d had the chance to make something of her Je Suis Malade. She was the right girl for the program and it deserved a clean skate.
I agree. I mean, Gracie Gold was 4th, Ashley Wagner was 7th, and they’re both successful. It just sucks that Adelina had the tough luck. I wish her nothing but the best.
I wholeheartedly agree with the Robbed comment. Adelina deserves to skate well into her 20s. She is still young and one medal shouldn’t stop her career.
Maybe it’s bad to say…..but I wish Adelina had won bronze medal at OG2014. It still would have been a great achievement but she would have motivation, wouldn’t have skipped two seasons……But when Olympic gold medal is already on your neck and with such level of competition in a national team…where to find a motivation?
