Russian figure skater Adeliia Petrosian stated that she no longer intends to focus on ultra-C elements in her programs. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Q: What’s the main difference between you last season and you now?
Adeliia Petrosian: I think it’s a kind of maturity, probably. Because I’ll have to change a lot now. I can’t keep jumping as much as I used to. My body is different, and my mindset has changed. I need to think about how everything will work. There’s a lot to reconsider, a lot to understand and feel. I’ll be working on that more now.
Q: What conclusions did you draw from this season?
Adeliia Petrosian: Probably that I won’t obsess over ultra-C elements. Of course, I’ll keep training and jumping them, but I’ll focus on other things. After all, I’m not just a quadruple jump – I’m about programs, interesting variations in performance. I want to show something new and beautiful.
Sometimes, when you’re skating a program, you get so absorbed in it that you don’t notice what’s happening around you. Only in the final pose do you realize the program is over and there’s an audience. I want to get back to that, because this year, after every fall on the toe loop, I felt so bad that I forgot there was a program to present and perform.”
