Elizaveta Tuktamysheva dedicated her program at the “Russian Challenge” show tournament to the issue of domestic violence, aiming to raise awareness through her performance. Here’s a translation of her comments.
Tuktamysheva placed 12th based on the jury and audience votes.
“When I heard Rosalia’s new album, especially the track ‘Berghain,’ I immediately decided I had to create a program to this music. The vocals are so powerful, and the song is incredibly moving.
When I listened closely to the lyrics, I came up with the idea for the program: I decided to address the issue of domestic violence. The song is about love through pain (listen to one of the lines -in the original, it’s quite harsh: ‘I’ll f**k you till you love me’). Those words stuck in my head.
I approached Ilia Averbukh with the idea of creating a social program – on a topic that is usually not discussed.
On air, the program was announced as being about toxic relationships, but the problem of domestic violence is much more serious. Not everyone understands the difference, but it’s huge.
We still don’t have a law against domestic violence, and that really worries me…
Believe me, far more women suffer from this than we think. It’s a global problem – women everywhere are afraid to speak out because they know how pointless it can be. It’s as if this problem doesn’t exist; everyone turns a blind eye – and I think that’s very unfair.
I want victims of domestic violence to stop being invisible. They have the right to be heard – and the right to protection.
Of course, I understood that this theme doesn’t quite fit the style of a show tournament. But I truly believe this issue is very serious, so I decided this was my chance to draw attention to it.
It was important for me to speak about it – in the way I know how. We need to talk about difficult topics – that’s the least we can do to help,” Tuktamysheva wrote on her Telegram channel.
