Nina Pinzarrone made a strong start at the World Championships. In the short program, she set a solid personal record of 71.82 points. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.
Immediately after her performance, Pinzarrone was all smiles, and she still hadn’t lost that smile hours later. “You could see I was happy,” Pinzarrone began.
“My warm-up went a bit worse than usual, but I had enough time afterward to calm myself down. I was pretty stressed, but as soon as I started and saw how many people were there, I just thought: I’m going to do this for them and enjoy it.”
And she didn’t disappoint the audience in Prague. “I’m very happy with my performance and my score. Scoring over 70 points is something every figure skater wants to achieve. I didn’t expect it.”
“I’ve had times when it felt good, but the scores didn’t reflect that feeling. If it had been 68, I would have been happy too. But almost 72 points – I didn’t expect that.”
Pinzarrone is now in 5th place and still has a chance at the podium.
“Today, I’m not going to do much more and will sleep a lot. Tomorrow, I have training around noon. I’m already happy that I can train with the top skaters. I need to build confidence for Friday. I know I belong here, even though I’m still a bit of a fan-girl training with the best.”
Pinzarrone doesn’t have a specific final result in mind. “There are so many good skaters behind me now who can deliver a great free skate. I just want to focus on myself, hope I won’t be too stressed, and simply enjoy being among the best.”
“I want to do my best and not think too much about 5th place or the podium. Otherwise, things won’t go well. I’m just going to focus on what I need to do.”
