Eteri Tutberidze commented on the results of ice dance at the 2026 Olympics, expressing disagreement with the placements and stating that the discipline is highly politicized and influenced by federations. Here’s a translation of her comment.
The French pair Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron won the event, Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates took silver, and Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier won bronze.
Tutberidze’s daughter, Diana Davis, and Gleb Smolkin, representing Georgia, finished 13th.
“Q: What did you think of the ice dance results at the Olympics?
Eteri Tutberidze: There are some aspects I disagree with.
Q: For example? Can you share?
Eteri Tutberidze: Well, I don’t know if I have the right to judge, since I’m not a dance coach, obviously. So it’s still an amateur perspective, even though I did skate in dance.
But I won’t discuss the top placements. Maybe things could have been different. But from fourth place onward, for me, it’s just chaos in the rankings, how the athletes were placed. I disagree with many of the placements – neither the composition nor the skating skills.
And here, it feels like ice dance is very politicized. The judges, the judging panel, the federations – they decide everything,” Tutberidze said in an interview with Okko.
