Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova shared her emotional experience attending the 2026 Milan Olympics as a spectator, reflecting on the intensity of competition and her memories from her own Olympic journey. Here’s a translation of her comments.

“Oh, the trip was wonderful, truly. The emotions were just incredible from absolutely everything that happened there! I had a great time with my family, we went for walks, and the competitions themselves were such an emotional roller coaster – ups and downs in feelings.

So, of course, I managed to both relax and recharge, and I came back feeling energized and ready for anything. So overall, everything was just great!” Shcherbakova said.

“To be honest, I experienced a lot of strong emotions – both positive and negative. Competitions always have their ups and downs, both for those on the ice and for the spectators who watch and empathize with the athletes. Being on the spectator side, I definitely felt a lot of emotions. We went to different sports – we watched figure skating, hockey, short track, and speed skating.

Honestly, I’ll admit I even felt a bit frustrated: when I got home, I had to rewatch the men’s events on video because I was so overwhelmed by emotions and memories from my own Olympics that I couldn’t really remember who skated what. I had to refresh my memory, since I only remembered fragments. In a way, it was more like personal therapy for me, and I relived the men’s competition emotionally and rewatched it later,” Shcherbakova said.

“I’m the kind of person who gets really involved in what’s happening on the ice and empathizes with the athletes, so of course, watching from the stands was incredibly nerve-wracking,” Shcherbakova said, responding to a question about the performances of Russians Adeliia Petrosian and Petr Gumennik.
