Olympic champion in eam event and world champion Ilia Malinin of the United States spoke to a NUR.KZ correspondent about his exhibition performance and his goals for the upcoming World Championships. Here’s a translation.
Malinin presented his exhibition program, dedicated to mental health. After his skate, he explained the significance of his performance and his future plans.
“This was a very meaningful performance for me today. It’s something I feel deeply and truly reflects what’s happening with my emotions. These are my thoughts about what I’m going through right now, to be honest. It’s what I experience every day, being under constant scrutiny and pressure. Not every athlete is able to handle this. Honestly, I don’t think I was ready for it at these Olympic Games.
So, honestly, I think that no matter what happens, I’m always grateful for the opportunity to be here. Following in my parents’ footsteps – they watched me, they were there for me at every stage, and I’m so happy, because without them I wouldn’t be here today. I’m looking forward to the future. I think there are so many bright things in life.
My goal is a healing performance at the World Championships. You know, it’s really about having a better time and truly enjoying the last competitions of this season. Then, in the future, there will be much bigger plans,” Ilia told the NUR.KZ correspondent.
