Tatiana Tarasova: “Petrosian was judged fairly. Not a single point was ‘taken away’ from her. Some people were claiming she was going to win Olympic gold, but, honestly, only delusional people would say that!”

Tatiana Tarasova defended Adeliia Petrosian’s risk-taking with the quad toe loop during the 2026 Milan Olympics, emphasizing her strong judging and encouraging her to focus on the future despite a 6th-place finish. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Was it worth taking the risk? You have to understand, that’s not for us to decide. That decision lies with her coaches and herself. When an athlete can execute a quad toe loop, how could they not include it? Nobody lands 10 out of 10 jumps with consistency.
She just didn’t get enough height – it was too low. Of course, it’s such a pity. It’s also unfortunate that the fall seemed to affect her emotionally, as she skated the rest of the program without the same energy,” said Tarasova during her commentary on Okko.
“She was judged fairly. Not a single point was ‘taken away’ from her. Some people were claiming she was going to win Olympic gold, but, honestly, only delusional people would say that! Who told them she was heading there to win gold? Why make up such things?” said Tarasova.
Petrosian herself expressed shame and disappointment after her performance, saying she felt she had let down herself, the federation, and her supporters, and that returning to Russia would be mentally difficult for her.
“She might be having all sorts of thoughts right now, but that’s nonsense! She should return home. I just feel sorry for her because it seems like her leg is hurting, even though no one is confirming it. That’s probably why she hasn’t been executing the quad. But we’ve all been supporting her and haven’t written her off in any way!” Tarasova remarked.
