Russian figure skater Adeliia Petrosian shared her emotions after her Olympic debut. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“This was one of those cases where I wasn’t nervous about my performance. Then I started getting nervous about the fact that I wasn’t nervous – haha!
I was so calm that even my mom said, ‘Maybe you should worry a little, at least?’ But I’m really glad that this calmness didn’t affect my skate negatively. Daniil Markovich [Gleikhengauz] mentioned that I grew more confident with every jump.
It feels great to finally experience such positive emotions. The scores are very good, and I’m happy.
Did I expect the judges to score me this way? I can’t say I expected it. When I mentally ran through my program, I just wished for something around 72-74 points. In the end, I got right in the middle of that range.”
Looking Ahead to the Free Skate
When asked about her plans for the free skate, Petrosian joked: “I’ll have to learn some sort of strategy from Petya [Gumennik]. My approach is always chaotic – I never really plan much for my day. My coaches guide me during training, telling me the plan, and my job is to execute it.
If adjustments are needed based on my condition, we’ll make them, but for the most part, I follow what the coaches set for me. They always expect me to stick to the plan.”
Living Outside the Olympic Village
Petrosian also shared her experience living outside the Olympic Village. “I’m not staying in the Olympic Village. I’m staying nearby – it’s just a 10-minute walk. I’m living with my mom, which makes me feel more comfortable.
Because I’m not in the Village, I don’t fully feel the Olympic atmosphere. But here at the rink, you can sense it everywhere. There’s ‘Olympic Games Milano 2026’ everywhere you look. Of course, that creates the very atmosphere you want to feel,” she explained.
