Japanese figure skater Kao Miura, a Milan-Cortina Olympic representative, addressed online abuse following his Four Continents victory, expressing his feelings and urging for kindness as he prepares for the next major competition. Here’s a translation of his comments.

At the Four Continents Championships held through last weekend, Miura scored a total of 273.73 points, claiming his second title in three years. On the 27th, he updated his social media, writing, “Thank you for supporting me at the Four Continents Championships! This competition helped me find good areas to work on for the next big event, and although the time is short, I want to focus and do my best!”

He also addressed issues outside of his performance: “This is a bit off-topic, but following the recent results, I’ve received some rather aggressive comments. While I understand some of the feelings behind them, I hope people will stop sending abusive messages about things unrelated to skating. I think those who send such messages probably do so to others as well, and I really hope they stop. There are people who get hurt by this.”

He concluded, “Sorry for going off-topic! I’ll do my best to deliver my best performance at the next Olympics! Thank you for your support!”
