Italian figure skater Nikolaj Memola recently opened up about his mixed emotions after placing 11th at the 2026 European Championships in Sheffield. While the competition did not secure him a spot on the Italian Olympic team for Milan, Memola’s heartfelt Instagram post highlighted his gratitude, perseverance, and optimism as he vows to return even stronger.
Sharing details about his road to the event, Memola revealed how a recent injury significantly impacted his preparation but showcased his determination to compete regardless. In his own words, he wrote:
“Where do I start?
I can’t express how grateful and happy I feel after this European Championship.
On November 29th I suffered a serious pelvic injury and had to step away from training for almost a month. Thanks to the incredible work of the doctors and my team, we managed to get me back on the ice in a surprisingly short time, and I was at least able to try to compete here in Sheffield.
I wasn’t expecting this kind of “success” given the very limited preparation I had.
Of course, I’m sad that I won’t be able to represent Team Italy at the Olympics, but I truly couldn’t have done more. I wish I had been able to fight for the spot in a healthy condition, but injuries are always unpredictable.
Now I’ll be cheering for my team and for all the athletes who will compete in Milan.
It’s time to get back into shape, heal properly, and prepare to compete again at full strength.
