Sota Yamamoto (26) has expressed his intention to continue competing next season, aiming for further growth and his first medal at the Four Continents Championships. Here’s a translation of his comments.
When asked by the press about his future after official practice at the Four Continents Championships, he clearly stated, “I’ll probably keep going.” Although he finished fifth at last year’s Japanese Nationals and missed out on selection for the Milan-Cortina Olympics this February, he looked back positively, saying, “It was a competition where I gained a lot of confidence,” and added, “I want to get even better. I still feel I have room to grow.”
His club coach, Machiko Yamada (82), had already asked him about next season’s training “as if it were the most natural thing,” even before he had made his decision public. Smiling, he said, “Maybe she sensed my intentions.”
At this tournament, Yamamoto is aiming for his first championship medal. “There have been some regrets in every competition this season, so I want to give it my all and have no regrets,” he declared with determination.
