Gabriella Papadakis clarified that her new book is not about Guillaume Cizeron or written against him, but rather addresses broader systemic issues in figure skating, and that the timing of its release was not intended to harm him. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on L’Equipe.

Gabriella Papadakis: I expected the book to make an impression, yes, but people who read it will understand that I wanted to write it with great subtlety. Neutrally. The commentary is something I worked on a lot. That’s why it’s very sad.

We know that people who speak out against systems of oppression always face resistance. But for me, it’s impossible to be truly happy, free, and fulfilled if I don’t live in harmony with myself.

Q: This past week, there’s been a lot of talk about the book, especially about attacks on your former partner Guillaume Cizeron. Do you feel you’ve managed to get your message across?

Gabriella Papadakis: Not yet. There have been sensational headlines like “The pair breaks up.” It’s maddening, because you think: “I spent all this time writing a book to explore the complexity of the issue, so people would understand what’s happening, how the system exists. And now… It’s a shame that my work is reduced to this.

Guillaume is not the subject of my book. So far, everything has been misinterpreted; people have spoken for me. Fortunately, the book is now out. People can read it. And if you read it in full, you’ll understand that these relationships are just a symptom of the system. It was not written against him.

Q: Do you understand that the publication date, so close to the Olympics, might be seen as an attempt to harm Guillaume Cizeron?

Gabriella Papadakis: Yes, I understand how it could be perceived that way. But the publication date was set before the announcement of his return (with new partner Laurence Fournier Beaudry). He’s living his life. I’m living mine. That’s all.”
