Niina Petrokina secured her second consecutive European title in women’s singles, while Loena Hendrickx took silver and Lara Naki Gutmann bronze. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on ERR.

“I don’t have many emotions right now. Throughout the program, I just tried to focus and forget that this was the European Championships; I just thought of it as another practice,” Petrokina commented after her victory.

“It was very hard, but I managed it and hope I can do it again someday. By the end of the program, I already knew it would be enough to win,” added the two-time European champion.

“The audience was so loud when I started. I felt like I was in Tallinn, exactly the same energy. The first European title was a shock; this time, I came to win and to prove I could do it. In Estonia, some people said it was impossible to win twice, and I wanted to prove the opposite.”

After this major victory, Petrokina now turns her attention to the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, which begin in less than a month. “The Olympics are a complete gift, because I’ve worked so hard over the last four years. I want to go there, experience it, and feel the atmosphere. I’ll keep working, and we’ll see what happens there. This second European title gives me a lot of strength for the Olympics,” said the two-time European champion.
