On Wednesday, January 16th, Loena Hendrickx finished 5th in the short program after a fall and is eager for revenge in the free skate. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.

She was the first on the ice Thursday for the training session. Eager? “Absolutely,” says Hendrickx, her eyes burning. “That’s the competitor in me.”

“I just wanted to go for it and skate out my anger from Wednesday. I was able to do that. I approached the training positively, even though it was tough after such a competition.” “But I handled it well and gained confidence from the training. I need to carry that with me.”

The short program still hasn’t fully sunk in. “I was extremely angry and very sad. I knew I could do it, but it’s always a snapshot. No matter how well you prepare, a stupid mistake can ruin everything.”

Hendrickx admits she puts a lot of pressure on herself. “I work hard and I want to perform. That’s not always as easy as it used to be, and that makes it difficult now. Before, everything came naturally, and I hope I can show that again on Friday night.”

As she says herself: “I would have rather finished 10th on Wednesday, but left the ice satisfied and smiling, than this.”

“I know I messed up. But it’s nice that the judges enjoyed my performance so much.”

Her brother and coach, Jorik Hendrickx, tries to help her stay calm. “You try to give the comfort she needs. Loena wants to show she can do it. Hopefully, everything will come together.”
