After the short program, Nina Pinzarrone is currently on the podium at the European Figure Skating Championships. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.
Nina Pinzarrone has come through a tough period with many injuries. That she’s in second place gives her “a feeling of relief.”
“I’m quite satisfied with my performance, given the circumstances,” said Pinzarrone. “To have been away from competitions for so long and then deliver a performance like this, I’m happy with that.”
“I’m always a perfectionist. I know there were still a lot of little mistakes. I also know I can do better, but I’m happy with how it turned out. I’m not at my peak yet, but that’s the goal for the Olympics.”
Pinzarrone admitted to feeling nervous. “If you haven’t done a big competition in 10 months, it’s normal to be stressed. But I think I managed it well.”
“Since I’m second after the short program, I have confidence. I know I can do the free skate well in training, so I’m feeling confident again.”
Pinzarrone didn’t want to think about a medal, but she already has the small medal for the short program. “I’m very happy with that,” she said.
For the free skate on Friday, she wants to show what she’s capable of. “It’s a program I’ve been doing for more than a year. I can skate it whenever I want, with my eyes closed. I have a lot of confidence in that program; I just have to do it in the moment.”
Pinzarrone had planned to work on a new routine, but due to her injury, she returned to her trusted program. “I think that was the best solution, because I feel the short program is a little less in me.”
“Today was the first time at such a big competition. I’m glad I stuck with last year’s program – I really enjoyed doing it.”
