Kevin Aymoz, aiming for his first European podium, has strategically changed his short program to maximize scoring potential in this Olympic season. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on L’Equipe.
Kevin Aymoz decided to drop “Judas” and keeping only “Le Lac” by pianist Jean-Michel Blais for his short program.
“I didn’t do it lightheartedly,” Aymoz told. “It was one of the shorts I loved creating the most. I found it very bold, with music that resonated well in rinks and entertained the audience. I also liked the contrast between choosing Lady Gaga and Bolero (by Ravel, for the free skate). I really wanted two different styles.” However, beyond a nagging foot injury since the start of the season, Kevin Aymoz realized the real issue was elsewhere. “The problem with this program was that it didn’t score well.”
A natural dancer, he used this variation to showcase his interpretive skills. “But I wasn’t showing enough of my skating abilities, and it would be a shame to miss out on that,” he insists. “My strength is my glide.” The skater reflects: “I could say that once in my career, I skated to Lady Gaga and it was fun. But it’s the Olympic season, and I have to think more as an athlete and strategist. What brings in the most points?”
