Amber Glenn, after leading the short program at the U.S.Nationals, shared her emotional experience, dedication, and gratitude, emphasizing her readiness and the importance of enjoying the moment. Here’s a translation.

She leads after the first day of the competition with a score of 83.05 points.

“Of course, I’m incredibly happy – the scores for my skate are huge, and I didn’t expect that at all. Before stepping onto the ice, I was mentally running through my program and suddenly felt something special – I even started crying before I went out.

Last year, my grandmother passed away. She had been by my side since my very first steps in figure skating. I’m not usually the kind of person who says things like this, but it felt as if she helped me cope with my nerves today. I felt her presence next to me. And I’m just immensely grateful to have experienced these emotions today.

This was probably the most emotional reaction I’ve ever had to a skate – usually, I react much more calmly. I felt such strong support from my team, family, fans, and the other girls, and that helped me just go out and do what I do every day.

I told myself: today, you’re going to enjoy the step sequence. No matter what happens, no matter how the skate goes, you’re going to enjoy this moment. Because so often I get so focused on “I have to do my job” that I forget: I do this because I love skating.

Of course, I was completely focused until the last jump, but once those were behind me, I was able to feel true freedom – the kind I usually find hard to allow myself. And I think this was one of the most enjoyable competitive experiences of my career. Regardless of placement or score – in that moment, it didn’t matter. The main thing was that I truly enjoyed this skate.

I prepared very seriously for this competition. I’m well prepared – as well as I possibly can be. So all that was left was to believe in myself and remember to breathe calmly,“ the quote is reported by Sports correspondent Maya Bagryantseva.
