Haein Lee, after overcoming numerous challenges and a dramatic comeback, secured her first Olympic spot and expressed deep gratitude and determination to compete with confidence. Here’s a translation of her comments.
Haein Lee, who finished second among athletes eligible for the Olympics and earned a spot on the dream stage, could not hide her joy. She said, “There have been so many difficult times, and I am grateful to the heavens.”
Before the competition, Lee was trailing Chaeyeon Kim by 3.66 points, making her Olympic qualification uncertain, but she managed a dramatic comeback to secure her Olympic ticket. This will be Haein Lee’s first time competing at the Olympics.
After finishing her performance, Lee, seemingly realizing she had qualified, collapsed onto the ice and wept tears of relief. She said, “I thought of all the hard moments I’ve been through.”
Lee has been a leading athlete, winning a silver medal at the 2023 ISU World Championships, but narrowly missed qualifying for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Lee said, “I’ve heard that there is no such thing as eternal happiness or eternal unhappiness. I overcame difficulties by believing that no matter how hard things get, I would eventually get through them.”
She added, “At the Olympics, I will compete with even more confidence.”
