Olympic ice dance champion Gabriella Papadakis shared reflections on her life after retiring from competitive skating, describing a period of uncertainty, self-discovery, and renewed passion. Here’s a translation comments.

“A year ago, I decided to leave everything behind and start with a clean slate. I had no idea what my life would be like, what direction it would take, and I was terrified. Becoming part of the elite world of figure skating shaped me in every way, and I didn’t know who I would become after my career ended.

I found myself in an in-between state—between the life I knew was no longer mine and another that didn’t yet exist. I could never have imagined what awaited me: I fell in love with figure skating again, wrote songs and an entire book, opened my heart and fell in love, read, watched movies, went to concerts, cooked, danced, cut my hair even shorter, and most importantly, I started dreaming again,” Papadakis posted on social media.
