Evgenia Medvedeva noted that prize funds in Russian figure skating have increased dramatically compared to her competitive years, helping to keep athletes motivated despite international bans. Here’s a translation of her comments.
Answering a question from “RB Sport” about how Russian athletes find motivation now, given their exclusion from international competitions, Medvedeva said:
“Many interesting formats are being created. Recently, there have been show programs, a jump tournament, and the prize funds have increased significantly. If you look at the prize funds from when I was competing and now – the difference is six zeros. The Figure Skating Federation is making incredible efforts to keep our golden sport at a high level. It would be sad if Russian figure skating faded away. We don’t want that to happen, because we have a huge number of talented skaters who are hoping for the future.”
