Misato Komatsubara reported on Instagram on the 30th that she and her husband, Tim Koleto, have divorced. The two competed as an ice dance couple, representing Japan in the team event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where they won a silver medal. Here’s a translation.

Komatsubara began her post with, “To everyone who has always warmly supported us,” and shared a photo of herself with Tim. “This is a personal matter, but I have an announcement. After eight years together as figure skating partners and as a married couple, we had many discussions last year and decided to divorce,” she explained.

She added, “We wanted to take care of our feelings and greet those who have supported us directly, so this announcement comes a little late. Thank you for your understanding.” She expressed her gratitude, saying, “The time we spent together and what we built through skating are still precious treasures to me, and I am truly grateful. That feeling will never change.”

The pair have been active in ice dance as representatives of Japan, contributing to the team’s silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Komatsubara first won the Japanese Nationals in the 2009–10 season with Kokoro Mizutani. From the 2014–15 season, she skated for Italy with Andrea Fabbri. In 2016, she formed a partnership with Tim Koleto, returned to Japan, and continued competing. They married in January 2017.

Tim Koleto, originally from the United States, obtained Japanese citizenship in 2020. From the 2018–19 season, the pair won four consecutive Nationals and were selected for the Olympics, Four Continents Championships, and World Championships. In April 2024, Tim retired from competition and became a professional skater.

Komatsubara concluded, “We will continue to skate together as partners in ice shows and various events. As we each move on to new chapters, I want to continue cherishing the meaning and importance of skating. I sincerely thank everyone who has warmly supported us until now.”
