Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova shared that she does not plan to commentate at the 2026 Olympics but intends to attend the event in Italy as a spectator. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Q: As a figure skater, did you ever imagine you would become so involved in commentating later on?

Anna Shcherbakova: Honestly, during my athletic career, I never even thought about it. Even when I started working as a host on television projects, I didn’t. I just thought it would be interesting to try myself in this role, but nothing more.

It was only when I first found myself in the commentator’s booth that I realized it’s a whole different world. And I really enjoy being in it, developing, moving forward, and getting better. This profession is truly very close to my heart.

I try very hard to improve and understand that there is still a lot to work on. But I think the most important thing is that I am genuinely interested in it, and I have this spark inside that drives me to move forward and work on myself.

Q: The Olympic Games in Milan are coming up. Will we hear your commentary at this tournament?

Anna Shcherbakova: Of course, I would be interested in working there. But due to certain circumstances, I don’t think I will be commentating at the Olympics this year. However, I plan to go to Italy with my family and attend the competitions as a spectator. I think it will be very interesting.

I’ve already had this experience: in 2014, I went to the Sochi Games. Now I want to remember what it’s like to watch competitions from the stands. I want to feel that atmosphere from the other side and experience different emotions.”
