Two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko suggested that Adeliia Petrosian and Petr Gumennik should have been evaluated more realistically at the Russian Nationals to better prepare for the Olympics. Here’s a translation of his comments.
“I think it’s best to do this in the context of the results of the recently concluded Russian Nationals. It seems to me that our Olympians should have been evaluated a bit more down-to-earth.
I understand the motives of the federation leaders and Russian judges, but it would have been better to focus on the shortcomings here. That way, there won’t be any unpleasant surprises at the Olympics,” Plushenko said.
Petrosian and Gumennik won the singles titles at the 2026 Russian Nationals. They are expected to participate in the Olympics in February 2026 under neutral status.
