Evgeni Plushenko commented on Elena Kostyleva’s departure from his skating school, stating that her parents crossed all boundaries. Here’s a translation.
“It was a great pleasure working with Lena. We had excellent chemistry – the best that could exist between a coach and an athlete.
Kostyleva understood me instantly, with just a word or a glance, and did everything that was required of her. We never refused or abandoned her as a skater. Circumstances simply developed in such a way that the decision was made by Lena’s parents.
We tried for a long time to find a compromise, but I want to come to training with a positive attitude. Especially when working with a young girl, whose mood must be taken into account. Kostyleva’s parents crossed all red lines,” Plushenko said.

Skating mothers. OMG. Lots of stories. Generally they have ruined their child’s career and life
This makes me so sad. Elena and Plushenko did fabulous work together and she is a tremendous talent. She was already thrown out of Tzuberidze’s program because of her mother. I really hope she is not derailed by all this drama and finds a stable new coaching situation soon. And I hope she gets all the moral support she needs there.
