Evgeni Plushenko expressed disappointment over his experience working with the parents of skater Elena Kostyleva, despite his significant efforts and contributions to her career. Here’s a translation.
“My wife and I are completely disappointed with this situation. We haven’t communicated with her mother for six months. We put so much heart into Lena, really did so much for her. We took care of every issue, including financial ones. Lena and her father have been registered at our house for three years. Besides, before coming to us, only a limited number of people knew about her.
We did a lot professionally. She became Russian champion with our team. We increased her jump content from two to six ultra-c elements in one season. By the way, our team was never thanked. Not once. Not for a single competition.
There’s a sense of emptiness. As I’ve been told, all of Lena’s previous coaches experienced the same thing – everyone ended up being the bad guy and supposedly ruined the champion of everything. Honestly, in my eight-year coaching career, I’ve never worked with any athlete as much as I did with Lena. But for her mother, it was never enough, never enough… But everything happens for the best,” Plushenko told.
