Pair skaters Alena Kostornaia and Georgi Kunitsa plan to return to competition this season after the birth of their son, aiming for events in March–April and considering entry into the “Russian Challenge” tournament. Here’s a translation.
“Yes, we really do plan to return to competitions this season. Right now, we’re skating in shows and putting together all the necessary elements. Basically, almost everything for the free program is ready. I have a few issues with toe jumps, but that’s only because I set them aside a bit while we focused on the required pair elements. But it’s nothing – I’ll land them, as always, a couple of days before the start.
During the shows, we’ll be putting everything together, working on transition elements. After the New Year’s shows, we’d really like to take a vacation, and after that – why not? We’d like to try competing in March or April, in Sochi, Perm, and so on. We want Gosha to earn the title of Master of Sport. It’s not a critical point – he’ll get it anyway – but it would be nice. So we’re preparing. If it works out, great; if not, it’s no big deal. But I hope it works out,” Kostornaia said.
The skater also shared that she and Kunitsa plan to apply for the “Russian Challenge” tournament.
“We’re planning to enter. We’ve already discussed our application, and they told us what themes are possible. We thought about what we could do with that, and they said, ‘Go for it.’ I just hope the dates don’t overlap with our vacation!” Kostornaia added.
