In the men’s free skate at the Grand Prix Final, Shun Sato, who was second after the SP, achieved a personal best of 194.02 points in the free skate and a total of 292.08, placing third.
Skating right beore Shun Sato, Ilia Malinin had set a new world record with a program featuring seven quadruple jumps of six different types. “Before I started, I heard Malinin’s score and got really nervous,” Sato revealed, “but I was able to turn that nervousness into strength,” earning his second consecutive bronze medal.
His next competition will be the Japanese Nationals (starting on the 19th in Tokyo), where Olympic spots are at stake. “At the Japanese Nationals, I want to deliver even higher-quality jumps and programs,” Sato said, determined to continue improving as he aims for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.
