Guillaume Cizeron explained his criticism of judging at the Grand Prix, emphasizing the need for transparency and understanding in ice dance scoring. Here’s a translation.

Olympic ice dance champion Guillaume Cizeron, who skates with Laurence Fournier Beaudry, clarified his comments about judging after the Grand Prix stage in Finland.

At that time, Cizeron had said, “There are some strange games going on that are ruining ice dance. I don’t think I’ve ever been at such a tournament in my career—from a judging perspective.”

Q: Are you satisfied with the levels now, or do you still disagree?

Guillaume Cizeron: It wasn’t just about the levels. I think it was the overall situation. But, you know, as athletes, we’re very used to getting feedback, moving forward, and improving everything we can. When you don’t understand the scores, your coaches don’t understand the scores, and even some judges don’t understand the scores – that means there’s a problem somewhere. I just wanted to point out this lack of understanding.

But overall, I think in a broader sense, we want the audience to understand ice dance as well. I think that’s what my comment was about. If we don’t understand the scores we receive, how can the audience understand what’s happening? And that’s true.

I have never in my career questioned the judging; I have great respect for the judges and technical specialists. I believe it’s a very difficult job. But I have to point out things that, in my opinion, really can be improved,” Cizeron said on Okko.
