Margarita Drobiazko, World Championship medalist in ice dance, praised the free dance of Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron and believes they have strong chances for Olympic gold. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“At first, I watched their rhythm dance – it was fine, but I kept comparing it to Gabriella (Papadakis), and something felt off. But when I saw their free dance, honestly, I didn’t even think about Gabriella. It was more than enough for me; I really liked the girl, and as a pair, I liked them more than with Gabriella. I was absolutely delighted by their free dance.
And most importantly, I like both of them. If I compare them to Chock and Bates, I still prefer the female partner. I either don’t notice the male partner, or if I do, I think: no, it’s better to watch her.
But here, both look very harmonious. It’s a pity their rhythm dance doesn’t quite match the level of their free dance, but I think with such a free dance, they have very good chances.
I also really like the Canadians, Gilles and Poirier. I just adore them – when they skate cleanly and when they have proper costumes. I like that they have their own style.
With all due respect to the Montreal team, when there’s such a monopoly, you still recognize that Montreal style, no matter how good it is, and you want a different perception, a breath of fresh air.
Yuris (Razguliaevs) has worked with them for so many years, I really like these guys, and I think they have a chance at the top three,” Drobiazko said on the show “Katok.”
