Chaeyeon Kim set a new season-best free skate score at the 2025 Korean Figure Skating Ranking Competition, showing steady recovery from injury and determination to continue improving. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.
In her post-competition interview, Kim said, “I’m glad I was able to show a better performance than last time at this competition,” and added, “I saw a lot of areas to improve, so I want to keep working on those.” Regarding her much-improved jumps compared to the start of the season, she explained, “I had a torn ankle ligament at the beginning of the season, which was tough, but I’ve been steadily practicing and refining what I need to fix, and I’m recovering a lot. I’ll keep working to recover even more.”
Asked about her injury, Kim explained, “I tore my right ankle ligament after catching a hole in the ice during a spin. I was really worried because it happened right before the first competition of the season, but now I’ve recovered a lot and am focusing on rehabilitation.” She withdrew from her first event for rehab, but decided to enter her second Challenger event before full recovery “to get feedback on the whole program and to earn a few more ranking points.”
On changes to her free skate, Kim said, “I wanted to give a slightly different feel from last season, so I changed some movement details and paid more attention to spins in practice.” When asked about her costume change from gold to white, she smiled and said, “My mother made this costume too. Since it was made in Canada, where fabric is hard to find, we went with this design.”
Kim’s next event will be the 80th Korean Figure Skating National Championships.
