At the Tallinn Trophy, part of the International Skating Union’s Challenger Series, reigning European champion Niina Petrokina returned to competition in the women’s singles after a break of several months. Here’s a translation of an article and comments posted on ERR.
After months of pain in her right leg, Petrokina underwent Achilles tendon surgery in Germany at the beginning of October, during which the inflamed tendon sheath restricting movement in her right Achilles was released.
Although Petrokina initially hoped to make her post-surgery comeback at the recent Grand Prix event in Finland, she ultimately returned to the ice at her home rink in Tondiraba, where she was crowned European champion earlier this year.
In front of the home crowd, Petrokina scored 58.86 points in the short program, placing fifth. She was just over ten points short of her personal best.
The best performance came from Finland’s Olivia Lisko (67.47), followed by Americans Sarah Everhardt (66.83), Starr Andrews (66.33), and Alina Bonillo (61.10).
