Adam Siao Him Fa finished second at the Finland Grand Prix, securing a spot in the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, and sees the event as valuable preparation for the European Championships and the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on L’Equipe.

“It’s cool,” responded the two-time European champion. “I need to compete, and the Final is the perfect preparation. There’s no pressure; it will be a continuation of the training we’re doing with Cedric (Tour) and Benoit (Richaud). We’ll use this competition to gain as much experience as possible. And being with the best skaters is a real motivation boost.”

Leading after the short program, Adam Siao Him Fa admitted to being nervous. During his six-minute warm-up, he landed a beautiful quad toe loop – then tumbled on the ice. “That fall really helped me because I was very tense,” he smiled. “It made me laugh and relaxed me a bit. There were some pops afterward, but I felt a little less lost, even though I had no visual markers when I got on the ice. Honestly, that fall gave me perspective: ‘Well, yeah, you fall on a triple toe loop and it’s not a big deal ’ (laughs).”

Afterward, Cedric Tour reminded that his skater hadn’t entered a free skate as the leader since the European Championships in January, which hadn’t ended well: delayed in his preparation due to injury, he had to settle for the bronze medal.

“I gave everything I could,” Adam confirmed. “I was very nervous, but I didn’t feel like I lost all control – just a bit. I tried to hang on to every element until the end. And I take a lot of positives from this. Even if the program wasn’t as good as in Angers, it’s okay. I’m still working on myself, and I’m making progress.”

His coach agreed, promising that amid the storm of a chaotic season start, he always believed in Adam Siao Him Fa’s ability to bounce back: “I never doubted his ability (to recover). I did have doubts about the path to take to correct course, yes.”

In the coming week, before leaving for Japan, there will be some choreographic adjustments to the short program. “For Adam, it will first be a recovery week,” said Cedric Tour. “We’ll keep him on the ice but without tiring him out too much so he can deliver two strong programs there.”
