Nina Pinzarrone became Belgian figure skating champion just before her 19th birthday, competing alone due to other top skaters’ international commitments. Here’s a translation of the article posted on Sporza.
“Two days before her 19th birthday, Nina Pinzarrone once again became Belgian figure skating champion. She faced little competition, as Pinzarrone was the only participant on the ice rink in Deurne.
With Nina Pinzarrone, Loena Hendrickx, and Jade Hovine, Belgium has three figure skaters of international caliber. This weekend, however, Pinzarrone was the only one to compete at the Belgian Championships.
Hendrickx represented Belgium in Helsinki at the Finland Grand Prix, while Hovine also competed abroad.
Pinzarrone has chosen to take a break from international competitions for now, as she has fallen behind in training after foot surgery.
This was also apparent to spectators at the Belgian Championships in Antwerp. Pinzarrone presented a new program but does not yet have full command of it.
She achieved a total of 179.95 points, with 125.12 points for the free skate. On Friday, her short program earned her 54.83 points.
The somber expressions reflected the overall mood.”
