Amber Glenn: “Of course, when you’ve had four GP wins in a row, you want to win again. But it’s not like, ‘Oh my God, I should have been first.’ No, there’s no way I should have been first today. Mone was absolutely incredible – she’s an amazing skater.”

American figure skater Amber Glenn expressed satisfaction with her silver medal at the Finland Grand Prix, reflecting on her performance, health challenges, and the realities of adult life as she prepares for the Grand Prix Final. Her comments were reported by Sports journalist Maya Bagriantseva. Here’s a translation.
“Silver is a worthy result; it’s about the same score I had when I won the French Grand Prix last year. But this is a different event and different competitors. Today, I made a lot of mistakes, and I still feel about 80% of my normal self because of illness. Considering all that, I’m very satisfied with my skate.
Of course, when you’ve had four Grand Prix wins in a row, you want to win again. But it’s not like, ‘Oh my God, I should have been first.’ No, there’s no way I should have been first today. Mone was absolutely incredible – she’s an amazing skater.
I knew that if I wasn’t in perfect shape, I could only beat her by a miracle. But I’m glad I was still able to perform in a way that I’m not ashamed of today.
The Final is ahead, and I’m looking forward to it. Before heading to Japan, I have a work project to finish – a new sponsorship contract, which I’m very happy about.
Finally, I’m getting paid to skate – which is very timely, because I have to pay the bill for dental surgery I had last week. I’m 26 now, and I pay for everything myself – hello, adult life. I’m no longer on my parents’ insurance. I had to pay myself. So prize money and sponsorships will help cover that,” Glenn said.

Amber is my favorite skater this season. She’s become a complete skater with great programs, power, heart, fight, and a wonderful combination of humility, confidence, and not just respect but empathy for her competitors. I am so proud of her and it’s a joy to watch her compete and represent the USA. She has the potential medal at the Olympics or even win if she hits and others don’t. Go, Amber!
