Adam Siao Him Fa, after winning the short program at the Finland Grand Prix, shared that he is focusing on short-term goals and not stressing about the Olympics, following recent illness and equipment issues. His comments were reported by Sports correspondent Maya Bagryantseva. Here’s a translation.
“I was more nervous than usual today. But as soon as I stepped onto the ice, the nerves disappeared. I’m probably satisfied with my skate, although I was really scolding myself during the combination.
Preparation for this event was a bit disrupted: I was sick all last week, then had problems with my boots – I broke two pairs in one day. So I had to urgently prepare new ones, mount the blades, and try to be ready for the start of the competition. Honestly, after the first Grand Prix event, I had motivation issues. I was very tired, had no energy at all. So I’m glad I had a break between events. I get tired faster after competitions now – maybe I’m getting older, I don’t know.
I was thinking about what goals to set for myself. In the summer, I was really worried about the Olympics, but now I’ve decided not to think about it. Of course, it’s an important event. But I’ve decided that even just qualifying for Milan would be an amazing result. As a child, I couldn’t even dream of such a thing. So now I set myself short-term goals and don’t plan too far ahead,” said Siao Him Fa.
