European champion Loena Hendrickx explained that illness and technical issues affected her short program at the Finland Grand Prix, but she remains determined to fight on and sees each competition as a gift. Her comments were reported by Sports correspondent Maya Bagryantseva. Here’s a translation.
“Of course, this wasn’t the performance I had prepared for. Everything went wrong from the very morning, but I hoped I could overcome the circumstances during the skate. I got sick at the worst possible time and haven’t been able to eat for several days, so I probably just didn’t have enough strength for the program.
At morning practice, there were technical problems with the music I couldn’t run through my program, the practice was disrupted, and I got very nervous. I guess it all turned into an adrenaline rush.
But it’s okay, I need to pull myself together and fight tomorrow. I’m glad to be here, glad that competitions are back in my life. After last season, I see this as a gift of fate. This season started unusually: I had to reach peak form already by September. So, this is another lesson that will teach me something. Tomorrow is a new day, I’ll keep fighting – I can’t give up,” Hendrickx said.”
