Yuma Kagiyama is focused on delivering strong performances at the Finland Grand Prix, aiming to overcome last year’s disappointment and secure a spot in the Grand Prix Final. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.
Yuma Kagiyama (22) participated in official practice on the competition rink. During a run-through of his free skate to “Turandot,” he fell near the end but successfully landed two quadruple toe loops and one quadruple Salchow, saying, “I think the feel of the ice was pretty good. Practice went really well, so I feel confident,” with a smile.
Last season, Kagiyama faltered in the free skate at the Finland event, finishing fifth. Although he won, he was left in tears by his performance. Now, a year later, he reflected, “I’ve experienced last year’s frustration. I’m fired up for this revenge match, so this year I want to skate well and clear away last year’s regrets.”
After winning the NHK Trophy in his first event, Kagiyama can secure a spot in the Grand Prix Final (December 4–7, Nagoya) by placing sixth or higher at this event. As Japan’s ace, he faces high expectations, but said, “People expect me to make the Final or win, but first I want to focus on the content of my performance. I think the most important thing is to deliver both a solid short and free program,” as he looked ahead to the short program.
