On November 19, Japanese skaters competing in the final Grand Prix Series event in Finland practiced at the rink in Helsinki. Here’s a translation of Kagiyama’s comments.
Yuma Kagiyama, arrived on the November 16th, erlier than the rest of the Japanese team. He explained that he chose to arrive early to better adapt to the time difference and climate.
After practice, Kagiyama spoke to the press: “I want to use what I learned from the first event and deliver a good performance.” While qualifying for the Grand Prix Final requires a top-six finish, his personal goal is “at least 300 points.” Even without the quad flip in his program, he expressed his determination to surpass the 300-point mark for the first time since last November’s NHK Trophy (total 300.09 points).
At a joint press session in Helsinki, Kagiyama said, “I’m really fired up. I have to score at least 300 points.” After winning the fourth event, he is in a strong position to qualify for the crucial Grand Prix Final in Nagoya (December), which is important for Milan-Cortina Olympic selection. On this day, he consistently landed both quadruple salchow and toe loop jumps, expressing confidence: “I’ve been building up good practice.”
