On her Instagram, Estonian skater Eva-Lotta Kiibus (22) announced her retirement from competitive skating. Kimmy Repond shared an emotional update on her withdrawal from the Grand Prix. She’s a two-time Estonian national champion (2020–21), she represented Estonia at the European and World championships and finished twenty-first at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
“For 18 years I’ve been giving all I have and more to skating. Devoted to my dreams and goals, never stopping. Falling and rising again and again. Fighting with everything that came my way. Until the day there was no fight left in me.
For the past year I’ve been struggling with burnout. I tried to find a way out, with the help of professionals. Trying to push the problem up the hill when it was clearly too heavy to hold. The quality of my everyday life, my mental and physical health were alarmingly poor. Figure skating was my life, it was everything I breathed and lived for. To achieve results over average, you need to train over average. But this wasn’t possible anymore. I am not the kind to surrender easily or lower my goals. The possible results wouldn’t have satisfied me nor been worth the price that came with it.
I am forever thankful to the people who were standing strongly next to me all these years. To the people who gave me their knowledge, time and energy. I will keep my head up and be proud of my journey.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Eva-Lotta posted on her Instagram.
