On her Instagram, Kimmy Repond shared an emotional update on her withdrawal from the Grand Prix.
“Dear everyone,
Usually I am not writing such a long text, but I am getting a lot of messages recently if I’m doing alright and why I haven’t been competing yet. I was supposed to have surgery for my ankle tomorrow, which is also why I withdrew from the next few challenger series. It all started last year after Cup of China when my skate broke right before the competition. After I changed my skates immediately because I had nationals 10 days later. I started to jump in the new skates too quickly and starting having pain in my ankle. Until worlds everything was still okay, I could train mostly without too much pain. Once I came back from worlds I was suddenly in so much pain I couldn’t jump anymore, then I went on vacation to Mexico. After these few weeks I thought the problem will be solved but once I started to jump again the problem came right back. I went from doctor to doctor, and had several different diagnosis.
It was very difficult for me, because we didn’t really know what the problem was. I took a break from skating, had all different kinds of injections, I tried everything I could and the pain kept getting worse and worse. Last week I was told the only solution would be a surgery. I did a couple more scans and they found out that it is probably a different problem that we previously thought, which wouldn’t need surgery after all.
At the same time while all of this was happening I was dealing with another personal issue which unfortunately at the moment I’m not allowed to speak about. It has taken away a lot of my energy and it was a very difficult time for me. Now thankfully it’s all over and I can focus on myself again, and I’m already feeling a lot better.
I will keep you updated on my foot and I will come back stronger! I can’t wait to return to competition and I will do my best to be at my best shape for the second half of the season!!
Thank you for your support and also a big thank you to the Schulthess Klinik and the federation.”
