Kamila Valieva has been stripped of her gold medal at the 2022 European Figure Skating Championships following a doping violation, with Anna Shcherbakova now officially recognized as the champion.

The International Skating Union (ISU) has finalized the revised results of the 2022 European Figure Skating Championships, naming Russian skater Anna Shcherbakova as the winner.

Fellow Russian skater Alexandra Trusova has been awarded second place, while Belgium’s Loena Hendrickx takes third place.

Initially, the gold medal had been awarded to Kamila Valieva. However, her results were annulled following a doping violation. Valieva has been disqualified for four years due to the use of the banned substance trimetazidine. Her disqualification period has been set retroactively, starting from December 25, 2021.

At the end of October, the Swiss Federal Court rejected Valieva’s appeal to review the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding her doping case.

“The ISU will proceed with the reallocation of medals in due time.

This marks the conclusion of a long and challenging process for the athletes involved. The ISU wishes to express its appreciation for their patience, professionalism, and resilience throughout this period. The ISU is pleased that these skaters will now receive the recognition and medals they rightfully deserve.

The ISU remains firmly committed to safeguarding the integrity of skating and ensuring fair competition. This commitment was reaffirmed during the 2024 ISU Congress and is a cornerstone of the ISU Vision 2030 strategy. Together with all stakeholders, the ISU will continue to take comprehensive measures to promote clean sport and to protect the physical and mental well-being of all athletes,” ISU statement says.

I don’t care what they say. Her victories were legit. Why do we hate all Russians just because their leader is a crook? She would’ve won the Olympics if it weren’t for a few glory seeking a-holes.

  2. Martha B. Higgins says:

Unfortunately, the three legitimate winners were cheated of their opportunity to celebrate their wins at the time because Valieva chose to cheat. Sad.
