Kamila Valieva, the Russian figure skater who faced a four-year ban for the use of the banned substance trimetazidine, was ordered to cover legal expenses amounting to 23,000 Swiss francs following the rejection of her appeal by the Swiss Federal Court. The court declined her request to review the decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding her doping case.

Specifically, Valieva is required to pay 7,000 Swiss francs for legal expenses, as well as 8,000 francs each as compensation to the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The period of her disqualification will be retroactively counted from December 25, 2021.

RUSADA Reports Lack of Access to Legal Documents in Valieva’s Case

In a statement to TASS, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) disclosed that it had no access to procedural documents or timelines regarding Valieva’s case. Despite submitting formal inquiries, all of RUSADA’s requests for documentation went unanswered, leaving the organization with no direct information about the court proceedings.

“RUSADA did not receive either physical or electronic copies of the appeal documents from the Swiss Federal Court,” the organization stated. “We lacked access to the procedural documents and the schedule for the case review. All official requests to obtain these materials went unanswered.”

RUSADA clarified that it was eventually able to familiarize itself with the relevant documents only with the assistance of WADA.

“Despite not receiving any official notification of the appeal filing or deadlines for submitting a response, RUSADA prepared and submitted its objections,” the agency emphasized. “RUSADA has consistently underscored the importance of fair and impartial consideration of its stance. This is especially critical in situations where unfounded allegations against RUSADA were included in the appeal.”

  1. Another cam kicked down the road. They don’t want to deal with it, sure, they can arbitrarily decline, no reasons, no questions asked.
