In an interview with Russian media Sport24, Jason Brown talked about Evgenia Medvedeva and Russian skaters. Here’s a translation

On Evgenia Medvedeva

“I miss her so much! The last time we spoke was at the Beijing Olympics – it’s crazy. When I was in Kazakhstan, someone told me Evgenia performed an exhibition here a year ago. That made me so sad – I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

She taught me how to be a fierce competitor and stay focused. I’ve always been hardworking, but Evgenia worked even harder. When she walked into a building, there was fire in her eyes, and you felt like you shouldn’t mess with her. She taught me how to look at others differently and stay centered in my performance, and I’ll always be grateful for that. Every time I compete, I think about Evgenia.”

On performing in her recent ice show

“Oh, I would absolutely love to participate! Her first show was supposed to happen in 2020 – she invited me, but it was canceled due to COVID. I’ve been waiting for the chance to come to Russia and perform with her. I really hope it happens in the future.”

On Petr Gumennik and Russian skaters

“It’s incredible. I’m amazed by how these athletes continue to push the boundaries of technical achievements. Petr performed five quads – I just want to land one, haha. It’s impressive. The diversity of figure skating is what makes it so beautiful – it’s a sport that thrives when everyone is included. Watching skaters give their all is what truly makes figure skating magnificent.”
