South Korean figure skater Haein Lee performed her short program at the Cup of China, finishing in seventh place, and is determined to improve her execution and focus on delivering her best in the free skating event. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.
After the event, Lee shared her thoughts in the mixed zone: “I thought I executed the triple lutz-triple toe combo well, but receiving a downgrade for insufficient rotation was disappointing. I realized I need to focus more on those technical aspects for the next competition. Still, I think I showed an overall solid performance in other parts of the program.” She also highlighted room for improvement: “I missed achieving the level for my step sequence, so I’m planning to focus specifically on that in my next event.”
This season, Lee decided to revisit two of her older programs, adapting them for her Olympic preparation. Addressing this decision, Lee explained, “As this is the Olympic season, I’ve given it a lot of thought. While this season’s two programs are excellent, I decided to bring back programs I’d performed before to prepare for the Olympics.” When asked whether familiarity played a role in her decision, she replied, “I think that’s part of it.”
Looking ahead, Lee plans to refine her execution: “I’ll be making further adjustments to the movements, and I aim to deliver an even stronger performance than before.” She also hinted at the possibility of performing her previous program, My Way, again: “I think I might showcase it once more someday.”
Lee Haein has competed in three consecutive events over the past month, including two Challenger Series competitions and the Cup of China. Reflecting on the busy schedule, Lee said, “It wasn’t as exhausting as I expected. Each competition gave me the chance to test what I had practiced and receive valuable feedback, which I actually liked.” She added with a smile, “When I realized that it was possible to compete in three events back-to-back, I thought, ‘Let’s give it a try,’ and my coach agreed, so here we are.”
Finally, discussing her goals for the free skate, Lee remained optimistic: “Although I feel some regret about today’s performance, I don’t think I did poorly. Tomorrow, I want to enjoy myself and deliver the very best performance I can at this venue.”
She also expressed gratitude for her fans, acknowledging the supportive banners hung near the arena: “I saw them on Instagram. I’m planning to go out and find them myself later – I’m really thankful for the kind support.”
