South Korean figure skater Jia Shin performed her short program to Chopin’s Nocturne No. 20 at the Cup of China, earning fourth place and steadying her confidence in her senior debut Olympic season. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.
On October 24, Friday, the first day of the 2025 ISU Grand Prix Series Cup of China took place in Chongqing. Representing South Korea, Jia Shin delivered her short program set to Chopin’s Nocturne No. 20. Shin scored 68.01 points in tota, placing her fourth in the short program standings.
In the mixed zone after her performance, Shin expressed a mix of disappointment and relief: “I feel quite regretful because I stepped out on the last triple flip. But overall, I think I did much better than at the France competition, so I’m grateful for that,” she said with a bright smile. She further shared her mindset during the event: “There were some mistakes during my run-through practice, but I tried not to dwell on them too much. With the competition still ahead, I focused on giving my all to the performances.”
Shin participated in back-to-back Grand Prix events after being unexpectedly assigned as a late addition to the France Grand Prix the previous week. Reflecting on her schedule, she stated, “It’s been quite a while since I’ve competed twice in consecutive weeks. The long-distance travel and busy schedule were definitely tiring, but I think I’m handling it well.”
This season marks Shin’s debut on the senior stage coinciding with the Olympic season. Speaking about the transition, she shared her excitement: “I’ve been waiting a long time to move up to seniors. There’s a different level of tension compared to juniors, so it feels fresh and exciting. As this is my first Grand Prix season, I’m looking forward to every moment.”
She also touched on the significance of preparing for her first Olympics: “This season feels special because it’s all about preparing for my first Olympics. Of course, I want to perform well, but instead of focusing solely on the Games, I’m trying to concentrate on each competition one by one. I believe that will naturally lead to good results.”
Regarding her short program, Shin shared her artistic goals: “This program is set to such a heartfelt song, so I tried to express my emotions and movements with even more elegance.”
