Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov missed the Russian Nationals due to Fedor’s issues with the back but were included in the team for European Championships.

Their coach Nina Mozer gave a comment to R-Sport:

Fedor feels fine, a little chilled, but generally okay. We returned to trainings on January 4th. Special attention is paid to the quad throw which we’re planning to try at European Championships – Mozer said.

The plans have been changed? Because before, in the interview for Golden Skate Ksenia told that they are not hurry up to include in programs the quad salchow throw, on which they’re working at trainings. And plan to show it at the end of the season.

So, why? I think there are some possible explanations:

  1. They need a quad to feel more confident at the Worlds level and they know it. And it’s more safe to try it at the European Championships. If the attempt is not successful they will lose only to Volosozhar and Trankov. When at Worlds it could cost them a medal.
  2. They saw that Volosozhar and Trankov are still strong competitors with great quality of the elements and PCS of the Olympic Champions……just 3-3 maybe won’t be enough to beat them…..and others….Yes, they beat Duhamel and Radford at Grand-prix Final but who said that Meagan and Eric will do mistakes again? And don’t forget about Chinese team Sui and Han.
  3. They have a successful attempts at trainings and some consistency on this element and decided to take a risk.
  4. It’s only talks to make the rivals nervous.

Personally I think they should better concentrate on the 3-3 combination, to make it more synchronised to get more GOE. Maybe they think that it’s safe to try it at European Championships….but I wouldn’t forget about Savchenko Massot and Kavaguti Smirnov too)
