Tatiana Tarasova, spoke about her trip to Kazakhstan, where she attended the Denis Ten Memorial Tournament held in Almaty. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“I had a very positive experience during my trip to Kazakhstan. Here, they hold a tournament in memory of Ten, and he is truly deserving of such a tribute because the entire world loved him. Denis was a very talented young man, a kind and intelligent individual. The tournament attracts a lot of people, especially young skaters. There are so many here who will be competing in the next four or even eight years. Watching them skate is a real joy,” Tarasova said.
For Tarasova, this trip held deep personal significance: “This trip is very important to me because I deeply loved Denis. When he was in Moscow, I worked with [Elena] Vodorezova for many years to help him, creating programs for him. I loved Ten with all my heart. I wanted to come to this tournament, and his mother, Oksana, who organizes everything, personally invited me. She has done such an outstanding job – I am so grateful to her for continuing to hold this wonderful tournament.”
Tarasova also visited the memorial site where the world lost Denis Ten in a tragic event. “I went to the place where this tragedy happened. There is now a monument there. For me, it was incredibly moving to stand on that spot and reflect on the loss of such a talented young man and a true legend in our sport.”
Tarasova expressed gratitude for the warm welcome she received in Kazakhstan: “The reception in Kazakhstan was amazing. It feels as if everyone here knows me – I can’t even walk down the street without being recognized. It’s very touching, even though I’m already leaving. What’s most important is that people gather here and remember Ten. He is still among us.”
