Tatiana Tarasova expressed skepticism about Kamila Valieva leaving Eteri Tutberidze’s coaching team to train under Svetlana Sokolovskaya at Tatiana Navka’s academy. Tarasova questioned the seriousness of the decision and Valieva’s chances of returning to competitive sports in this new setup. Here’s a translation of her comments.
Following reports from Sport-Express that Kamila Valieva will resume training in October at Tatiana Navka’s academy under the coaching of Svetlana Sokolovskaya, Tatiana Tarasova expressed skepticism about the move.
“It’s quite an unexpected decision. People don’t leave Tutberidze – she’s an excellent coach. Kamila already works with Navka in her shows, so I don’t believe this switch to Sokolovskaya will help her return to competitive sports. It’s not serious.
I think Kamila will continue performing in Navka’s shows. The season is starting, and this whole situation, if analyzed professionally, looks quite ridiculous.
Tutberidze, meanwhile, will remain focused on preparing national team members for the European and World Championships and the Olympics. She’s a top-tier coach,” Tarasova stated.
Tarasova noted the uncertainty surrounding Valieva’s future: “Kamila could return to competition next year. Right now, she’s performing in Navka’s show. If someone truly wants to come back, they can — but why not under Eteri Georgievna? What happened? Didn’t she take Valieva back? Or did Kamila make this decision on her own?”
The celebrated coach further questioned the motivations behind the move: “I can hardly believe this. Hopefully, everything works out, and I’ll have to apologize. But even now, it’s unclear why they came up with this idea,” Tarasova told Championat.
