Daniil Gleikhengauz, coach and choreographer from Eteri Tutberidze’s team, revealed that he knew in advance he would not be permitted to attend the Olympic qualification event with Adeliia Petrosian. Here’s a translation of his comments.

Adeliia Petrosian, competing under neutral status, claimed first place at the Olympic qualification competition for the 2026 Winter Games. However, Daniil Gleikhengauz, the coach and choreographer from Eteri Tutberidze’s team, was not granted approval by the International Skating Union (ISU) to attend the event. On September 15, during a training camp in Krasnoyarsk, Gleikhengauz disclosed that he had been informed of the decision ahead of the competition.

Petrosian was accompanied by coach Valerii Artyukhov, who specializes in pair skating. Eteri Tutberidze, who attended the event as part of the Georgian team, also supervised her training sessions during the competition.

Q: Were you disappointed about not being able to attend?

Daniil Gleikhengauz: Of course, it was disappointing. As a coach, you go through this entire journey alongside the athlete, anticipating these pivotal events. You imagine being there as a team, standing together, and helping guide the athlete mentally and physically.”

Gleikhengauz explained that both he and Petrosian were aware in advance that he wouldn’t be allowed to attend:

Daniil Gleikhengauz: We knew ahead of time that I wouldn’t be going, and we discussed this openly with Adeliia. Everything else was kept under wraps because we wanted to avoid any unnecessary complications.

Q: Did you have time to process this situation?

Daniil Gleikhengauz: Yes, of course. But still, things didn’t quite go as we had imagined. You probably noticed there were changes happening during the course of the tournament,” Gleikhengauz reflected in an interview with Okko.
